Accused sexual assault offender extradited

FROM THE FORCE: Yass police are investigating an alleged sexual assault in Wallaroo last Wednesday.

Detectives reported a 22-year-old man sexually assaulted a 24-year-old woman while stopped in a white Holden Colorado utility on Gooromon Ponds Road between 2.30pm and 3.30pm last Wednesday.

It is alleged the man then drove the woman to Wallaroo Road, shortly before the Barton Highway, where he stopped and further assaulted her.

During this time, it’s believed a small black car bearing red ‘P’ plates drove past the Holden slowly.

A short time later, a dark green sedan also drove past the Holden.

The woman attempted to gain the attention of both drivers; however was unable to. The man then drove from the scene.

Officers attached to the Hume Local Area Command were alerted of the incident and commenced investigations.

A 22-year-old man was arrested in the ACT two days later, on Friday September 18, and extradited to NSW.

He has been charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault and one count of detaining person for advantage. He will appear at Goulburn Local Court tomorrow.

Police continue their inquiries into the incident and are appealing for information.

Specifically, they would like to speak to the drivers of the black and dark green car which drove past the Holden, as well as anyone who may have been in the Wallaroo area between 2.30pm and 3.30pm on Wednesday, September 16.

Mid-range drink driving

A 30-year-old woman from Yass was charged with mid-range drink driving on Laidlaw Street.

Police stopped the provisional driver at 2.10am on Saturday.

She will appear at Yass Local Court on November 3.

 

Cash, watch stolen during burglary

A large amount of cash and a mens gold watch have been stolen during a home burglary on Tuesday morning.

Police said the occupant was away from the Brennan Street, Yass home when the break in occurred between 8.15am and 9.30am.

They offender/s gained entry through an unlocked door.

Police are asking members of the community to come forward if they saw any suspicious behaviour in the area at the time of the offence.

 

Canteen vandalised

Facilities at the Walker Park canteen clubhouse have been vandalised.

Sometime between 5pm Friday and 3pm Saturday, someone has removed the exterior lights out of the roof and smashed them on the ground. Replacement value of the lights is about $1000.
