Young swim champs honoured
YASS Swim Academy coach Sherree Bush has commended the efforts of the region’s young swimmers, with many highlights closing the 2014/15 season.
Thomas Carey took home the gold medal in the 50m free and a bronze in the butterfly event in the 12 years boys age group at the NSW Catholic State Carnival recently.
He advanced to the NSW PSSA state swimming carnival in those events, and to the MacKillop all-age 5 x 50m free relay team.
He swam personal bests in both of his individual events, narrowly missing the finals for both.
He finished 13th in the state for both events.
In the 50m butterfly he broke the long-standing Yass Resident’s Record that was held by Aaron Goode.
Thomas Carey, Darcey Bush, Alice Henman, Maya Smith and Ella Clark all swam at the NSW Catholic state carnival in individual events.
Alice Henman narrowly missed out on qualifying for the NSW PSSA Carnival.
Mount Carmel’s senior girls relay team, made up of Chloe Bateup, Ella Clark, Tully Howard and Phoebe Storey also swam at the NSW Catholic Carnival (see main picture).
The senior boys relay team at the event included Shaun Harris, Sam Pack, Darcey Bush and Thomas Carey.
Bowning Public School also sported a Small Schools Relay Team with William Kimpton, Abbey Selwyn, Mikaela Allen and Dylan Mann.
